Valiant Cross Academy announces they have been gifted the Dexter Avenue Methodist Church. The property is at 301 Dexter Avenue, directly across from the Alabama Supreme Court Building. The building was built in 1887 and has served as a church home for many generations in Montgomery, Alabama. This same building will be the permanent middle school campus for the sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade scholars of Valiant Cross Academy.
"When we first moved into this amazing space, never in our wildest dreams did we think we would ever own this building. I am honored and humbled to have a school on the Civil Rights Trail, neighboring Dexter Avenue Memorial Baptist, and on the same street where Rosa Parks leaped into history by boarding the bus. God has been extremely faithful to us." Said Anthony Brock, Head of School Valiant Cross Academy
Plans are currently in the works to transform the building into a fully functioning urban school while maintaining its historic beauty. The school administrators plan to incorporate every inch of the building into a space where children can learn and be inspired. While the building may be over 135 years old, Valiant Cross Academy will have the latest technology upgrades and be on par with other successful schools.
Valiant Cross Academy is an all-male school with Christian principles located in the heart of downtown Montgomery on two campuses. Brothers Anthony and Frederick Brock, both educators, were frustrated by the alarming number of African American students who were not considered college ready. They were committed to creating a school that addressed some issues facing young African American males. These young men are learning that with honor, integrity, discipline, respect, and love, they can learn to overcome some tough obstacles and become anything they want to be in life. We want them to have the ability to lead, serve, and inspire. As a result, we hope to increase the literacy rate, the attendance rate, and ultimately the graduation rate. Valiant Cross Academy celebrated its first graduating class this past spring with a 100% graduation rate, with all going on to college, the military, or the professional workforce. Our scholar's successes will show in the coming decades as they provide leadership for their communities and help transform those communities for the better.
The school first opened in 2015 with 30 young men, and now is now serving over 210 scholars. For more information on Valiant Cross Academy, please visit
