Governor Kay Ivey on Wednesday issued her fourteenth supplemental emergency proclamation containing an amended Safer at Home Order that includes a statewide mask requirement. Individuals will be required to wear a mask or other facial covering when in public and in close contact with other people, as described in the order. This amended order extends until July 31, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

The Montgomery City Council Tuesday, July 7, adopted an ordinance sponsored by Councilman C.C. Calhoun requiring face coverings, masks or face shields to be worn in public places in Montgomery to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Under the threat of stormy skies, two local entities came together on June 24 to the campus of Alabama State University to donate more than 2,000 masks to ASU and its partners, the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Montgomery Housing Authority. The masks will be distributed at no cost to Montgomery-area residents in an effort to help combat the spread of COVID-19.

After the implementation of Mayor Steven L. Reed’s executive order requiring face coverings be worn in public in Montgomery, the city’s nightly 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, in effect since March 27, has been lifted, effective immediately.
