Montgomery, Ala., May 15, 2024— Genpak LLC, a trailblazer in foodservice packaging manufacturing, celebrated its significant expansion alongside state, local, and community leaders with a grand re-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at its 400,000-square-foot Hope Hull manufacturing facility on Wednesday. The investment of $22.8 million not only reaffirms the company’s commitment to its 145 existing employees but also paves the way for 155 new job opportunities.

“The U.S. food packaging sector is experiencing a notable surge, and it’s with great enthusiasm that we see Genpak furthering its growth in Alabama. The company is seizing this upward trend through its expansive manufacturing and distribution center in Montgomery,” stated Ellen McNair, Alabama Department of Commerce Secretary. “The economic effects of this development are expected to be substantial for the local region.”

Genpak’s commitment to Montgomery is reinforced by Alabama’s focus on nurturing a sustainable supply chain and its strategic location, which offers swift, direct access to markets in the Southeast. Situated at the Hope Hull exit along Interstate 65, the newly renovated facility is located in the rapidly expanding Montgomery Industrial Park.

Mayor Steven L. Reed celebrated Genpak’s decision to reinvest in Montgomery, highlighting the city’s indispensable role in the food service industry through this partnership. “Genpak’s commitment is a clear affirmation of Montgomery’s strategic importance to this sector,” he stated. “We are not just excited but deeply committed to strengthening this partnership that has stood the test of time. It’s a partnership that promises to catalyze economic progress, paving the way for a future of prosperity and innovation in our community.”

Located in Montgomery since 1982, Genpak has been a key supplier and innovator of food service packaging solutions to U.S. eateries. The facility recently completed safety enhancements and operational upgrades for heightened efficiency, which will allow for rapid expansion. The ribbon-cutting event marked the facility's re-opening, reaffirming its vital role in delivering packaging solutions to the restaurant sector across North America and stepping into a new role as a distribution hub.

Doug Singleton, Chairman of the Montgomery County Commission, conveyed his profound pride in recognizing Genpak’s expansion within the county. “This significant development not only honors us but also solidifies our reputation as a pivotal industrial center in the Southeastern United States,” he stated. “Genpak’s growth is a testament to our thriving economic environment and our strategic position as a leader in the industry. We are delighted to witness this progress and are committed to continuing our support for such valuable enterprises that contribute to the prosperity of our region.”

Anna Buckalew, President & CEO of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, emphasized, "Genpak has long been a cornerstone of our regional economy, deeply ingrained in our community. As the chamber continues to lead the way in efforts to attract new businesses and promote growth in our region, it's crucial to acknowledge that more than half of new jobs originate from our existing industries. Our program is dedicated to not just attracting newcomers but also fueling the expansion of our established industries. We are excited about our continued collaboration with Genpak and look forward to the company’s ongoing growth, workforce expansion, and substantial impact on the economic landscape of the capital city region.”

Genpak’s enduring commitment to customer satisfaction and environmental stewardship continues to drive its pursuit of innovative and sustainable packaging solutions. The expansion of its facilities is a testament to this commitment, enhancing the company’s ability to meet the evolving needs of the industry while adhering to eco-friendly practices. As this phase of growth unfolds, Genpak’s capabilities are set to reach new heights, further cementing its role as a leader in the food service packaging sector.
