On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed newly elected Congressman Shomari Figures for a series of community conversations. This gathering brought together business leaders, elected officials, military representatives, faith-based leaders, small business owners, university presidents, and young professionals to discuss the future of our Capital River Region and the importance of strong federal representation in Washington, D.C.
Congressman Figures emphasized Montgomery’s national significance, calling it the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement and a city that has shaped America’s identity: “Montgomery stood up when others didn’t. It has given America so much, and now, America must invest in Montgomery. Whether it's infrastructure, job training, or economic development, Montgomery is uniquely situated to help America be what it has always held itself out to be.”
The discussion focused on economic development, workforce training, military partnerships, and infrastructure investments—critical areas where federal advocacy will drive the Capital River Region forward. The Chamber also highlighted Montgomery’s legacy of innovation, dating back to its first economic development win—recruiting the Wright Brothers for their first night flights and laying the foundation for the city’s military and aerospace leadership.
In a powerful moment of unity, Montgomery’s faith-based community gathered to pray for Congressman Figures as he begins his term, offering blessings for wisdom, strength, and guidance in his service to the district and the nation.
As Congressman Figures stated, Montgomery has always been a leader—and with strong representation in Washington, strategic federal investment, and continued faith in our future, the Capital River Region will remain at the forefront of progress.
