Montgomery, Alabama – The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce a significant milestone in the city’s tourism sector with Montgomery’s new Tourism Improvement District (MGYTID), a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the city’s hospitality and tourism industries. The new district, featuring a $1.50 per occupied room night assessment, is poised to revolutionize Montgomery’s tourism landscape.

Benefits of the Tourism Improvement District for Hospitality Partners
    • Increased Hotel Occupancy: The additional funding provided by the MGYTID will significantly enhance the visitor experience for Montgomery’s hospitality partners. MGYTID funds will be utilized for targeted marketing efforts designed to attract more visitors, thereby increasing hotel occupancy rates. This targeted approach ensures that marketing dollars are spent efficiently to yield maximum results, boosting the overall success of Montgomery’s hospitality sector.
    • Enhanced Visitor Spending: With additional resources dedicated to improving visitor experiences, Montgomery can offer extended stays and more engaging activities. This will lead to increased spending at local hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues, fostering economic growth citywide. The focus on high-quality visitor experiences will encourage longer stays and repeat visits, further benefiting the local economy.
    • Expanded Global Reach: The increased marketing budget will enhance Montgomery’s presence on the international stage, attracting more global tourists and solidifying its status as Alabama’s premier international destination. Strategic international marketing campaigns and partnerships will showcase Montgomery’s unique offerings, from historical sites to modern attractions, drawing in a diverse array of tourists from around the world.
     Setting New Benchmarks for Tourism
    • Destination International 2024 Annual Conference (Tampa, FL): Experience Montgomery recently attended the DI Funding Forum session and was recognized out of 30+ countries for establishing the MGYTID. Ron Simmons, Chief Officer for Experience Montgomery, and Sheron Rose, EVP of Governmental Affairs, have been invited to share best practices during future forum sessions, offering insights to nationwide destinations looking to form their own TID. This recognition underscores Montgomery's innovative approach and its potential to serve as a model for other cities.
    • Recognition for Structure and Strong Partnerships: Experience Montgomery, a division of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, was acknowledged for their effective structure, partnerships with local hotel owners, and elected officials, and for passing the MGYTID within one year, a feat that is virtually unheard of in the industry. The seamless collaboration and shared vision among the teams were key factors in achieving this milestone, demonstrating the power of strategic alliances in driving tourism success.
    A Commitment to Montgomery’s Future
This achievement was made possible by the tireless efforts and collaboration of numerous partners. A unanimous endorsement from the city council was secured, reflecting our shared belief in the transformative power of tourism. Building on the remarkable $1.2 billion economic impact generated by visitors last year, the MGYTID sets the stage for even greater accomplishments. This initiative is not just a funding mechanism but a commitment to Montgomery’s future as a vibrant and dynamic destination for tourists and locals alike.

As we embark on this exciting new chapter, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce remains dedicated to supporting our hospitality partners and ensuring Montgomery continues to thrive as a premier destination. The MGYTID will pave the way for enhanced visitor experiences, economic growth, and international recognition, positioning Montgomery at the forefront of the tourism industry. Together, we will set new benchmarks for excellence and innovation in tourism, driving sustained growth and prosperity for our community.
