State and local leaders virtually commemorate the major retailer’s expansion and job creation in Montgomery
Montgomery, Alabama – August 5, 2020 – This morning, Dollar General announced the official grand opening of its newest DG Fresh cold storage facility, a 450,000 square foot operation in Montgomery, Alabama in partnership with State and local representatives. Honored guests who participated in the virtual event included Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed, Montgomery County Commission Chairman Elton Dean and Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Chairman Arthur DuCote.
“We are excited to celebrate the grand opening of our newest DG Fresh facility as we grow career opportunities and our distribution center presence in Alabama,” said Rod West, Dollar General’s vice president of perishables growth and development. “We are incredibly grateful for the tremendous support from both state and local officials who helped make this project happen. Our Montgomery DG Fresh facility will allow us the opportunity to better serve our surrounding stores and communities with the quality products at affordable prices that customers depend on us to carry. The new 450,000 square foot DG Fresh Montgomery facility located at 6080 Mobile Highway, seeks to support approximately 1,500 stores through the Company’s Fresh initiative, which is a strategic multi-phased shift to self-distribution of frozen and refrigerated goods such as dairy, deli and frozen products.

Dollar General is further celebrating the grand opening through its mission of Serving Others by supporting literacy and education in Montgomery with a total of $15,000 in corporate donations to three local schools. Southlawn Elementary, Southlawn Middle School and George Washington Carver High School in Montgomery each received a $5,000 donation to celebrate the event.
