Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama celebrates launch of Genesis Electrified GV70
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – February 21, 2023 – Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) today celebrated the launch of the first-ever Genesis Electrified GV70 SUV. It is the first Genesis model to be assembled in the United States at the Montgomery manufacturing facility. This also marks the first time a Genesis model is assembled in the U.S. and the first-ever Genesis assembly to take place outside of South Korea.
Team members and executives from HMMA were joined at the celebration by local and state elected officials, representatives from Hyundai Motor Company and Genesis Motor America, and representatives from Alabama State University. Guests viewed a demonstration of the installation of the lithium-ion battery into the Electrified GV70 before the event speakers took the podium.
“Hyundai Motor Group has set a clear direction for the organization’s future mobility solutions that includes innovative designs propelled by batteries or hydrogen fuel cells,” said Ernie Kim, HMMA President and CEO. “HMMA is evolving to support this strategic direction and will continue to be a driver of economic prosperity in Alabama, Montgomery, and the surrounding communities. We are starting another amazing chapter in the history of HMMA with the launch of the Electrified GV70 sport utility vehicle in the United States.
“Genesis Motor Company brought the Electrified GV70 production to our assembly operation because we have proven our ability to build world-class automobiles,” Kim continued. “Today, the Genesis brand is turning heads in the luxury vehicle marketplace thanks to amazing designs and leading safety and technology features across the entire vehicle lineup.”
Genesis has committed that all new models launched will be all-electric starting in 2025 and that its entire vehicle lineup will be electric by 2030. The launch of the Electrified GV70 is an important step toward this goal.
“Last year, we began our journey toward an all-electric future for Genesis,” said Ted Mengiste, vice president of sales operations, Genesis Motor America. “We introduced our first EV models, the GV60 SUV and the Electrified G80 executive sedan. Those models are the first steps toward becoming an all-electric brand by 2030.”
The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 Advanced AWD has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $65,850 and includes class-leading standard equipment and technologies. The Electrified GV70 Advanced includes an entire suite of available safety and advanced driver assistance systems. This is comprehensively equipped with a 12.3-inch digital cluster and navigation system, vehicle-to-load charging and more.
At the conclusion of the event, representatives from Genesis Motor America and Hyundai Motor North America presented a donation of $50,000 to Alabama State University for the advancement of STEM-related curricula that will help develop the future of the automotive workforce.
“Genesis is committed to investing in the next generation by increasing access to quality STEM education programs,” said Brandon Ramirez, director of corporate social responsibility and external relations, Hyundai Motor North America. “Through our Genesis Gives initiative, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with Alabama State University Foundation and help create more opportunities for students to prepare for careers in STEM.”
