Thursday, February 18, 2021The Montgomery TechLab (MGM TechLab) launched its inaugural tech accelerator program this week and announced the ten companies from around the country that will participate in the 12-week virtual program. Companies in the program will develop digital services solutions with applications in defense, healthcare, and energy industries. During the program, companies will receive funding for meeting various milestones and will develop relationships with business leaders at regional institutions, including partners at Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Annex and Alabama Power Co. For the third year in a row, the Chamber’s Montgomery Business Journal announced the awards campaign to showcase member businesses and individuals who are making considerable impacts within key goal areas of the chamber’s Imagine a Greater Montgomery Strategy, including talent recruitment and education, strengthening and diversifying the local economy, transforming Montgomery’s image and increasing community capacity. The virtual meeting included reports from 2020 Chairman Arthur DuCote and President/CEO Anna Buckalew, the transition of leadership to incoming Chairman John Yelverton, and award recognitions for the business community. “In a year that tested us all, we found a way to bring support and relief to our small businesses, while finding the courage and conviction to vote in the first tax increase for public schools in 50 years. Monday, November 30, 2020TechMGM, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s initiative to connect and leverage Montgomery’s unique technology assets, is hosting an array of virtual events for National Computer Science Education Week, taking place Dec. 7-13. K-12 and college students, teachers and young IT professionals will have the opportunity to learn about the diverse areas in computer science leading up to and throughout the week. Friday, November 20, 2020The Air Force announced today that it has chosen Maxwell Air Force Base’s 908th Airlift Wing as the preferred location to host the MH-139A Grey Wolf Formal Training Unit. The MH-139 Grey Wolf is the replacement platform for the Air Force’s UH-1N Huey helicopter which supports the Air Force’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) missions. The aircraft will be one of the Air Force's newest aerial weapons systems and has a long future as a strategic Air Force asset. The opportunity to acquire this training mission at Maxwell Air Force Base is paramount as the Air Force divests from existing C-130 missions, which would affect the 908th Airlift Wing at Maxwell Air Force Base as soon as 2023. Alabama’s only Air Force Reserve Unit will have a Helicopter flying training mission and partnerships with Global Strike Command and Air Education and Training Command. During the press event, José Muñoz, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor North America, announced Hyundai is expanding the number of models it builds in the U.S. with the addition of 2022 Tucson production at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) plant in Montgomery starting in 2021. CampIT, which wrapped up today with a live Q&A, exposed students to the fields of digital media, cybersecurity, software development and esports. Wednesday, September 16, 2020Today, Mountain Top Industries officially announced their expansion into the U.S. market with the opening of a 73,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Montgomery. Mountain Top Industries is headquartered in Denmark and is a global leader in manufacturing of aluminum roll covers for pickup trucks. The new state-of-the-art facility, located along I-85 in Montgomery Industrial Park at 655 Industrial Park Boulevard, will include $13.5M in capital investment and will support 90 full time jobs with an annual payroll of $3.39M.
