TechMGM, Montgomery’s initiative to connect and leverage the city’s unique technology assets, will once again host the annual InnovateAFITC hackathon from August 17-26, 2020. This year, the cyber challenge will be held virtually due to COVID-19. Every year, InnovateAFITC challenges participants to create innovative solutions to significant cyber obstacles and threats. Participants this year will take part in three events, including an application building competition to help solve COVID-19 related obstacles that communities across the country are facing. This morning, Dollar General announced the official grand opening of its newest DG Fresh cold storage facility, a 450,000 square foot operation in Montgomery, Alabama in partnership with State and local representatives. Honored guests who participated in the virtual event included Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed, Montgomery County Commission Chairman Elton Dean and Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Chairman Arthur DuCote. Read more

Recover Together Small Business Relief Fund Announces Third Round of Grant Recipients Read more

On Friday, June 5, the Recover Together Small Business Relief Fund awarded nearly $70,000 to 22 local small businesses in its first round of funding. The purpose of the Small Business Relief Fund is to provide working capital to local small businesses as they work to continue or resume operations following COVID-19-related impacts. Over 450 applications have been received since the application window opened on June 1 and the Relief Fund will continue to accept applications through June 15. Additional funding rounds will be announced moving into next week. Read more
