The City of Montgomery was awarded $3.9 Million by the Office of Minority Health (OMH) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in July 2021. The Advancing Health Literacy to Enhance Equitable Community Responses to COVID-19 grant seeks to demonstrate the effectiveness of local government implementation of evidence-based health literacy strategies that are culturally appropriate to enhance COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, and/or other mitigation measures (e.g., public health prevention practices and vaccination) in racial and ethnic minority populations and other socially vulnerable populations, including racial and ethnic minority rural communities.
To accomplish the goals and objectives of the grant, the City of Montgomery and grant partners created the Central Alabama Neighborhood Health Initiative (CANHI) to collaboratively increase the rates of COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, increase health literacy, improve patient experience and patient-provider relations in Elmore, Montgomery, and Pike Counties.
This email serves as a request to potential partners interested in organizing or participating in community events to educate the community about local health services. Currently, we are reaching out to organizations to help support weekend community health events by providing services, setting up a vendor table to distribute information, or by presenting information.
It's with great pleasure that we announce our upcoming event on Dexter Avenue in downtown Montgomery on August 12, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This event will feature health vendors, health professionals, testing, vaccinations, exercise demonstrations, and more. We need your support to make this event a success. If you would like to be a Community Partner for this event, please register
here to reserve your booth. Registration must be completed on or before August 5, 2023.
In support of the event, take note of the following:
- We request that you share our event on social media to reach more people and spread awareness about the event.
- Registered vendors will be supplied with one table and two chairs.
- To help you make the most of your allotted space, please come prepared with any additional supplies or decorations that may be necessary.
- All Community Partners who are present will receive a meal ticket.
- Please arrive between 1:00–3:30 pm the day of the event to ensure you have enough time to register and set up your booth. You are responsible for setting up any decorations, placing items on the table, and cleanup at 7:00 pm.
- All Community Partners should stay until the event ends at 7:00 pm.
- To ensure the event's success, we ask that you provide us with a 24-hour notice if you provide a registered activity requiring a sound check.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out! We look forward to seeing your organization at CANHI City Fest.
