We are lucky to have Horne — author and former Alabama state poet laureate — present on the topic at The NewSouth Bookstore on Tuesday, April 16 at 5:30pm. Horne tracks Mayfield’s early life in Montgomery’s elite social circles, her friendship with H.L. Mencken and others culturally prominent, her lengthy confinement in Bryce Hospital for the Insane, and her writing career.
