The NewSouth Bookstore will be offsite on Saturday, April 6 at 6:30pm, at the historic First Baptist Church (347 Ripley Street), for a talk and signing by Hasan Kwame Jeffries, author and history professor at Ohio State University. The program is in connection with the 2024 Clifford and Virginia Durr Lecture. Jeffries is the author of Bloody Lowndes, his seminal work on the birth of Black power in Lowndes County, Alabama.
The book for the first time tells the remarkable full story of the Lowndes County freedom struggle and its contribution to the larger civil rights movement. Jeffries continues to push the boundaries of our understanding about our nation’s complicated African American history, through lectures, teacher workshops, journalism pieces, and through the podcast “Teaching Hard History.” Don’t miss this opportunity to hear his voice on the subject.
