MONTGOMERY ZOO (Montgomery, AL): The Gayle Planetarium is excited to invite River Region members to its Fall Astronomy Day on Saturday, October 19, from 10am to 3pm. This free, family-friendly event will feature astronomy displays, solar viewing, and a full day of educational presentations and activities.
The event will offer the chance to safely view the sun with solar telescopes, courtesy of the Auburn Astronomical Society. Guests can also enjoy a series of engaging planetarium shows and lectures, all designed to spark curiosity about the cosmos and provide useful information for astronomy enthusiasts of all levels.
Event Schedule:
10am – Free Planetarium Movie: Stars
11am – Lecture: “Telescopes and Telescope Purchasing” by Planetarium Coordinator Lee Tinker
12pm – Night Sky Review on the Planetarium Dome
1pm – Lecture: “My Journey from Optical to Electronically Assisted Astronomy” by Colonel Al Allenback, USAF (Ret), Director, Unmanned Aerial Systems, Troy University, Troy Astronomical Society
2pm – Mini Laser Show Presentations
3pm – Auburn Astronomical Society Meeting
Planetarium Show Tickets:
Seating is limited to 150 tickets per show. While tickets are free, they must be picked up in advance from the Gayle Planetarium Gift Shop, starting October 9. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so early pickup is encouraged. Planetarium management reserves the right to limit the numbers of tickets provided to a single individual or family to provide an equal opportunity for all guests to attend a show.

The W.A Gayle Planetarium is an educational facility that explores the Earth and space through a unique perspective including lightshows and presentations. We will begin running Saturday showings and additional advanced group reservations with the goal to extend hours of operation soon. The Gayle Planetarium is a department of the City of Montgomery.
Admission: $7.50 per person (ages 3 and up)
