MONTGOMERY, AL – The City of Montgomery has announced the launch of its new Open Data Portal, available now at
https://opendata.montgomeryal.gov/.
This innovative platform marks a significant step forward in Mayor Steven L. Reed’s commitment to fostering transparency, accountability, and community engagement in Alabama’s capital city.
“Montgomery is a city on the move, and this Open Data Portal reflects our dedication to building a more connected and informed community,” said Mayor Steven L. Reed. “This is about progress, collaboration, and trust in city government.”
Designed to empower residents, businesses, and civic innovators, the Open Data Portal provides free, public access to a wealth of city data in an interactive format, from public safety statistics and budget details to infrastructure projects and community resources.
Powered by ArcGIS Hub technology, the portal allows users to explore, download, and visualize data, making it a valuable tool for informed decision-making and creative problem-solving.
“The platform is very user-friendly and maintains a high level of functionality, which not only promotes transparency but invites residents to be active partners in shaping the future Montgomery,” Reed said.
Key features of the Open Data Portal include:
- Interactive Dashboards: Visualize trends like crime rates, road improvements, and city spending with easily accessible tools.
- Downloadable Datasets: Access raw data in formats like CSV and shapefiles for research, analysis, or app development.
- Community Resources: Find up-to-date information on city services, public projects, etc.
The portal was originally launched six years ago, but an emphasis on improving the user experience led to the production of the updated portal. It’s launch builds on Montgomery’s history of leveraging technology to serve its people.
“We’re excited to see how Montgomery’s residents will use this tool to make our city even better,” said Tracy Williamson, the City Operations Program Manager for the Planning, Inspections, Permitting and Engineering (P.I.P.E.) Department. “This portal isn’t just about sharing data—it’s about building a more collaborative Montgomery.”
Residents, journalists, students, and developers can explore the portal and use its data to spark innovation, whether it’s a new business idea, a neighborhood improvement project, or a deeper understanding of local government.
