MONTGOMERY PLANETARIUM (Montgomery, AL): New Saturday shows have arrived at the Montgomery Planetarium for the Spring. We have two new shows playing at the Planetarium which include “The Magic Treehouse: Space Mission” and “Extreme Planets.” Additionally, The Planetarium will be hosting Astronomy Day on May 18, 2024 from 10 am – 2pm.
The new schedule for Saturday shows includes the following:
- 10:00 am - The Magic Treehouse: Space Mission (kid's show)
- 11:30 am - Extreme Planets (general show/documentary style for families/older age groups)
- 1:00 pm - The Magic Treehouse: Space Mission (kid's show)
- 2:30 pm - Extreme Planets (general show/documentary style for families/older age groups)
We are excited to have both kid friendly and general public options for a variety of visitors. The new shows started playing Saturday, May 4th 2024 and will play through the spring and part of Summer.
On May 18, 2024, the Planetarium will be hosting Astronomy Day from 10am-2pm.
The schedule for Astronomy Day includes the following:
- 10:00 am – 1:00 pm - Solar viewing with Auburn Astronomical Society members (weather permitting)
- 10:00 am - Presentation on "Fascinating Space Structures" by the Planetarium Coordinator
- 10:30 am - Telescope Basics Presentation and Discussion/Questions
- 11:00 am - Planetarium Show "Black Holes" - this show requires an admission ticket. Tickets must be purchased at our gift shop counter. Cost is $7.50 each (child or adult)
- 12:00 noon - Presentation on "The Nancy Grace Roman Telescope" by the Planetarium Coordinator
- 12:25 pm - Free planetarium show "The Planets - Spring/Summer version"
- 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Auburn Astronomical Society meeting (public welcome) - meeting will begin after completion of The Planets show
In addition, we will have other displays about special space topics provided by some of our great volunteers. Our planetarium gift shop has also been restocked with some new and interesting items!
The Montgomery Planetarium reopened in January of 2024, and has been a great location for family outings and even school field trips. We have enjoyed seeing the community come back and experience nostalgia and excitement for the updated facility.
