“The Fairy and Lumberjack” is one of the popular Korean traditional folktales that describes the tragic love story of the Lumberjack with a fairy. This performance will integrate Korean, Indian, and Alabamian cultures to introduce the multicultural perspective while showing both a diverse and traditional performance. This community-based theater production supports our mission to bridge unity through diversity.  Professional Alabamian director and playwright, Angela Dickson adapts the performance “The Fairy and the Lumberjack” to respectfully express a multicultural perspective.  Choreographer Sudah Raghuram is a local artistic director, and she mainly interprets the music and traditional Indian dances for the script.

For several years, we presented an annual project for the residents of the Montgomery area to introduce Korean culture through artistic performances with visiting professional artists from Korea. It was a limited one-time experience. The Challenge America program provides the opportunity for residents to learn about other cultures from both international and local professional performing artists through participation as stage actors or direct assistants then transfer this learning to a stage.  This is how A-KEEP wants to bridge cultural differences in the Montgomery area. Our community deserves the chance to express themselves and this is the perfect setting. We honor and thank the National Endowment of the Arts [NEA], and the Alabama State Council on the Arts [ASCA] grants that fund our vision and mission.

A-KEEP’s mission is to provide multicultural diversity education programs to the students and professionals of both Alabama and Korea. A-KEEP also serves the community as a Global Partnership facilitator by bridging the differences between institutions and corporations of Alabama and Korea for local economic prosperity. Lastly, our annual Bridge of Unity in Diversity projects provides community enrichment and multicultural experiences to local community residents.
