Maxwell Air Force Base is the home of Air University, the Air Force's education and leadership hub. Gunter Annex hosts some of the most sophisticated technology enterprise systems in the Department of Defense (DOD). Maxwell is home to the 42nd Airbase Wing, and a major training, educational and technical center for the U.S. Air Force. Air University includes schools that bring in enlisted personnel, officers and international officers from all branches of the military around the world. Many of these students become leaders in their government. Maxwell also has opened a new Cyber College as part of Air University, with a goal of furthering the development of this growing area of technology.
In addition to being the location of the Montgomery Regional Airport, Dannelly Field also is the base for the Alabama Air National Guard Fighter Wing, continuing Montgomery's rich partnership with the military community.
Montgomery and Maxwell Air Force base have always been close partners, and the capital city is proud to have a military institution of such stature as part of its community. In 2015, the warm welcome and strong support that Montgomery has consistently provided to all who live and work at Maxwell earned the city a prestigious national award, the Altus Trophy. The city has also been named “The Best Hometown in the Air Force.”
